Kiwis! I need your help!! I don’t know much about New Zealand yet, but no one can deny that it is rich in breathtaking scenery, outdoor adventures, and must-see locations. Too many to choose from, but decisions will come another day, not now.
With a little help from the top Google hits, I’ve compiled a list of places to go in New Zealand – LOTS of places. More than I can afford. But who said I had to be realistic quite yet?
Below, in no particular order, are some sites that caught my eye. Some of these are “itineraries” for self-guided vacations; others are just a list of favorite places. I had to include Hobbiton…I couldn’t resist. The Green Dragon tavern in Hobbiton looks amazing! The tavern has the best foods and drinks ever, and all of them pretty much affordable too.
This is a trip itinerary for the hikers, bikers and kayakers. This site suggests hitting up Rotorua, Fiordland, Milford, Queenstown, Lake Wanaka and Mt. Aspiring National Park.
This itinerary has a wide variety of activities in it. It suggests visiting Aukland, Waitomo caves (and horse riding!!), Rotorua, Nelson and sea kayaking in Abel Tasman National Park, Punakaiki “Pancake” rocks, Fox Glacier, and Queenstown. Read for more detail of suggested activities :)
This site offers a list of the top 10 places to visit in New Zealand. Included is Kaikoura, Coromandel Peninsula, Tongariro National Park (mordor), Westland National Park, Mt. Cook National Park, Bay of Islands, Rotorua, Queenstown, Abel Tasman National Park, and Fiordland National Park (pictured).
This is a blog with a list of some guy’s personal favorite places he visited and hiked in New Zealand. Included are Napier, Punakaiki “Pancake” coast (starting to see some themes?), the Waikato river (pictured), Franz Josef Ranges, Abel Tasman Coast Track, Golden Bay, Waitakere beaches, Tongariro National park, the coromandel, and the Milford track.
And last but not least, Hobbiton! This is a site for booking guided tours, so I’m not sure what’s available for people just wanting to hang out and look around. However, the Green Dragon tavern is more than enough reason for me to want to visit this place!
